If you have a child entering JK or SK in September 2014, and if you will require before and after school childcare (7:30-9:00 a.m.) and (3:15-6:00 p.m.) as well as childcare on non- instructional days (PD, winter break, March break, summer) please read the information below very carefully.
When you register your child for Junior Kindergarten or if your child is moving from JK to SK, you will receive a Survey from the school asking if you require childcare. It is very important that you answer YES to this question even though your child is already enrolled with Hawthorne-on-Essex Daycare. The TDSB will use the Survey as the sole source of data; they will not cross reference with our enrollment records. It is important that the Surveys are completed accurately to ensure we reach a required minimum of 20 families.
With the move to Full Day Learning, responsibility for childcare for 4 and 5-year-olds now falls under the Ministry of Education. The Ministry has given school boards the option of choosing how they would like to deliver before and after school care for Kindergarten children in their schools.
The Toronto District School Board (TDSB) has chosen to bring in third party operators to provide childcare for Kindergarten students if enough parents ask for the service. For Essex Public and Hawthorne II Bilingual Schools, Hawthorne-on-Essex Daycare has been selected as the potential third party operator but only if a minimum of 20 families indicate that they need day care services.
